i agree... but school isn't the best way to learn language ^^ i learnt most of english in games, then i was in nederland where i had to use english, then came time of my big diablo excellence (that still continues) and i use english every day, later i started watching movies without subtitles...

i wanted to say, most you have to learn yourself... i was just wondering how you are learning english...

Sir, the very first result in Google Search gives you this: http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hapax_legomenon Go thru it; it should clear all the fuck out of your head. :D

It may not be the best way, but at least for me, it's been as necessary as any other method. In other words, the practical aspect is extremely beneficial, but you couldn't do it right if knowledge of theory lacked.

Do you want to know what English means to me right now? It's heaps of texts I've written believing that they're flawless, so that I can be given them back and find out that one-fourth of them is no English of any kind. It's a row of textbooks I've been reading to learn the fact that I haven't yet covered all the simple grammar English is claimed to have, nor am I able to read a single news article without finding at least one inconspicious expression or word I don't know or understand. It's hours of reading aloud English texts to practice my pronunciation, and in the end, in comparison to native speakers, my speech still doesn't sound plausible enough.

Of course, I'm overdramatizing it a little; however, I'm still fully confident I would be fairly fucked up if I relied on watching movies and online gaming. Nonetheless, it just depends on whether you wish to make your English as english as possible, or you only need it as a lingua franca to communicate with your friends in the Netherlands. Anyone has got to choose...

That's not the "very first result" I was talking about. :-) My Google keeps preferring my native tongue where possible. O:-)

i want to keep my czech accent, i want everybody to know i am foreign... and i hate british english, if i hear american english i understand 90% words (if they speak properly), but when i watched harry potter in original, that was horrible :D

in netherlands it was just 12 days (10 years ago), but now i commonly read quite difficult atricles with many terms etc...

Recently, I was thinking of switching to Canadian English. Generally, we may speak about North-American English, as there are not many differences. However, there are some - and having read thru this and that, I gave up this idea once and for all. :-)

My current English probably sounds too much... Scandinavian. :D No problems with ð and þ, but too much æ in it. On the other hand, å is a typical American sound; in BrE it doesn't take place.

Canadian English is fine, it is somewhere in between English and American English. But I love southern accent, e.g. from Texas. :)

Canadian English is like British spelling pronounced with an American accent. :-D No, seriously - I don't think it's somewhere in between. It's very American-like to a large extent, only with a few existing Britishisms I couldn't get over. :-) But as I said, some people (including me O:-) ) only speak about "North-American English" without any further subcategorization.

So, speaking of my inclination, I stick with great lakes. From NYC to Chicago and northwards. O:-)

Well, my previous question was meant rather generally. But the truth is, I should do about my shifted daily schedule... :-]

Well, the same thing awaits me soon.
I was given an advice today: it better should be rapid and unexpected. Just like going to bed after midnight and getting up at six.
